Think of dental implants as metal anchors, usually made of titanium, that are surgically placed into jawbone to hold permanent replacement teeth or dentures. Through a process called “osteointergration”, the jawbone actually attaches itself to the implant over time, providing tremendous stability.
A single implant can be made when adjacent teeth are healthy and in place. During surgery, each implant is placed within the jawbone to serve as an anchor for the post that will eventually support the replacement teeth. Generally from three to six months or more is then allowed for the bone tissue to grow around the implants and hold them securely in place.
Once the jawbone is firmly healed around the implants. The post protrudes through the gum-line and serves as an anchor for the replacement teeth. This short procedure usually requires only local anesthesia. After your gums have healed, the replacement teeth are securely attached to the post.
Because dental implants are patterned after the structure of your natural teeth, they provide a highly stable support system for replacement teeth or dentures. Other benefits include:
A fixed bridge abutment or crown and bridge is often used when a crown can anchor the prosthesis in combination with an implant. Improved biting pressure.
Healthy teeth are able to absorb over 500 pounds of biting pressure per square inch. If you´re worn dentures for long time, that pressure may be diminished significantly, to one tenth that of natural teeth.
Dental implants can often restore the amount of pleasure that can be withstood to nearly the same level of healthy natural teeth.
Comfort and fit. Because your replacement teeth are anchored securely to the implants in your jawbone, they cant slip and slide like unsecured dentures can. When dentures aren't secure enough, they often cause sores in dental implants eliminate these problems.
Longevity and reliability. With proper oral hygiene and care, scientifically tested and approved dental implants function remarkably like natural teeth, most people who get them experience a renewed sense of self-confidence once they realize they can again chew, talk, laugh and smile with confidence.
The permanent fixed denture is often an excellent alternative to removable dentures. If you face the loss of one or several teeth or if you're dissatisfied with dentures or other options available to you, you may find that dental implants are right for you. Age is not typically a major factor: successful dental implants have been performed on young people as well as the elderly.
During your initial consultation, well help you decide.
In general, we look for the following characteristics:
The care you give to your dental implants makes a tremendous difference in the overall satisfaction you experience, as well as the longevity of the implant it self. With proper oral hygiene habits-brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups your implant will serve you well.
Is that specialty of dentistry wich encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatments of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes and the maintenance of the health, function and esthetics of these structures and tissues.
The two-way relationships between periodontal disease and diabetes.
For years we've known that people with diabetes are more likely to have periodontal disease than people without diabetes.
Recently, research has emerged suggesting that the relation goes both ways-periodontal disease may make it more difficult for people who have diabetes to control their blood sugar.
More research is needed to confirm how periodontal disease can make it more difficult to control blood sugar. What we do know is that severe periodontal disease can increase the blood sugar, contributing to increased periods of time when your body functions with a high blood sugar. And, as a diabetic complications.
In other words, if you are among the nearly 16 million Americans in U.S. Who live with diabetes, or are at risk for periodontal disease see a periodontist evaluation because healthy gums may lead to a healthier body.

Is a commonly used term for endodontic therapy or root canal therapy.
After the tooth is ¨numbed¨, a small opening is made into the pulp chamber. The canals are located and measured, so they can be cleansed and shaped using a series of hand files and engine-driven instruments. We also use the highest technology in apex localizors.
After the space is cleansed canal system is filled with gutta-percha and a dental sealer material is placed in the root canal space. This allows the bone and tissue around the root to repair and heal.
Most often, a crown is placed in order to protect the tooth, and if the tooth lacks sufficient tooth structure to hold the core build-up, a post may be placed inside.
A new restoration is almost always required following the root canal.
The number of visits necessary to complete a root canal will vary depending upon the degree of infection, the number of canals in the complexity of the procedure. We always strive to achieve the best possible result; therefore, your treatment may take one visit, or it may take more.
The Orthodontics Treatment allows correcting dento-facial disharmonies.
It´s main objective is a esthetic, in which we try to get a beautiful smile, and an ideal occlusion, as we look to improve the masticatory function and achieve stability between aesthetic and function.
This treatment generally gets done with brackets and it takes approximately 2 years, in which the patient has to attend monthly appointments where the activations are done, inducting the dental movement.
This procedure consists of the placement of a full dental prosthesis, without palate on upper dentures, over four or more implants. The prosthesis is screwed to the implants allowing it to the total function of the denture.
